Let’s obtain the qualification of “Kosodate Shien-in”

If you want to work as an English teacher at a nursery school or kindergarten in Japan, you should first obtain this qualification.

 

【Back ground】

Currently, many foreign children attend Japanese nursery schools. Cultural and language differences can make things difficult for the children, their parents, and the nursery school teachers. If you are a foreigner, why not work at a nursery school as a bilingual childcare assistant? The children and parents from your country will surely feel at ease with you there.

It is helpful to have a qualification to work at a nursery school. Your salary will be stable, and you will gain the trust of the parents. Having a qualification will also make it easier to find work.

 

【What is Kosodate Shien-in?】 

Kosodate Shien-in is a qualification of childcare.

By participating in this training program, you can learn the knowledge necessary to work at a nursery school. The program is short, consisting of 2~4 times face to face meeting sessions, approximately four weeks of video learning at home, and two days practical trainings for a total of about three months. You will receive the certificate after you complete the training.

There is more difficult childcare worker qualification which is called “Hoikushi”, but this license takes about three years to obtain and require tuition fees. In addition, a high level of Japanese language ability is required, so the Kosodate Shien-in training is easier and recommended.

This qualification gives you better benefit if you work in a type of nursery school called "Kigyo Shudo Gata Hoikuen". 

【Dates and Method】
This may differ depending on the prefecture. 
e.g. Kosodate Shien-in in Tokyo consist of 7days seminar and 2days   observation training at a nursery school (2024)
e.g. Kosodate Shien-in Training in Saitama consist of 2days seminar, ondemand video watch, and 2 days observation training (2024)

The schedule for each class will be shown before you apply, so you can select the class when you make an application, however, the schedule for each class is fixed, and request for changes are not accepted usually.

(5) Orientation for observation

【Fee】
Training Fee is about 0yen ~ 5000yen, depending on the prefecture.

【Important Precautions】
-Japanese language skill is required. Because it's all in Japanese.
-Some prefecture requests you to secure an observation training school by yourself.
-You must have address in Japan. （Residence Card holder only）

研修参加料金はだいたい０円～５０００円。都道府県によって異なります。

見学実習を自分で確保しなければならない都道府県もあります。
